The Geography Challenge

Each week there will be a new picture of a place put up on the blog. You have to guess on a piece of paper and place in the plastic wallet in one of the Geography classrooms. The winner will be selected at random from all the correct entries. Make sure your name is on it. There will be a prize!!

An easy one this week:

Good luck - Mr. Still

Year 7 - I love this town

We will watch this in class and using a wiki discuss what was good and how it can be improved.

Thought of the Day - 21/01/2009

Wednesday

Average temperatures have climbed 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit (0.8 degree Celsius) around the world since 1880, much of this in recent decades, according to NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies.

Watch the video.

Task 1:
In silence think about one way you can save the planet etc. for 30seconds

Task 2:
With the person next to you, you have one minute to come up with four ways you can save the planet.

Task 3:
With another pair (either in front or behind you) in four minutes come up with 16 ways you can save the planet.

We will then discuss,

Mr. Still

Year 11 - can you spare 20 minutes....

Can you spare 20 minutes for Geography.... After your mocks were slightly disappointing in places, it is time to put in the hard work now. You have to take small baby steps to start off with on the revsion path before we get to exam success. So these sessions will take place on a Thursday lunchtime from 29th January.

The list of revision sessions will be published soon. It is STRONGLY recommended that if you are asked to attend one, you attend. It is for your benefit at the end of the day!

If you make a start now it will be a lot easier come exam time!!

Mr. Still

The Geography Department needs you!

Are you good with ICT particularly flash and making flash animations. Mr. Still would like some help with how to make this. If you can help pop into HU4 at break or lunch or even speak to me during lesson. I look forward to your help.

Globalisation cartoon

Globalisation is the new topic we will study in year 9. Please make sure you spell Globalisation with a 's' and not a 'z'. We are not American (I am not being anti-american (go Obama) but an examiner may get annoyed by mispellings!!)
Study the cartoon below: What do you think the artist is trying to say? What is the problem here?

Sunday 4 January 2009

Attention all year 7's!!

Hot off the press!!

After the settlement unit we will be studying something entirely different and new. I am very excited by it as I am pretty sure very few Geography departments in the country will study what you will be studying.

I am not going to write anymore just watch the taster video:

Enjoy, Mr. Still

Cool Advert

I think this advert sums up exam success. It is the latest advert from Volkswagon for their new Golf. You may have seen it on TV. The line 'sometimes the only one you have to beat is yourself' is particularly good. It sums up really what a lot of you as students need to think about as often you are the only person who stands between you and success in your exams!

Think about it.

Mr. Still

Pompeii video

This video is about Pompeii the eruption which happened in 79AD. Year 8 students will watch it in class on Thursday. It should be a very interesting lesson and you just need to go with the flow.

Earthquake watch: latest earthquake in Indonesia killing 4 people and measuring 7.6 on the richter scale.
